Microsoft - Leader of Mobile Device Market

This is an article that I write with inspiration from another article on windowscentral by Jason Ward. The very title of the topic was confusing and I even felt like being mislead. Not to mention my thought that Jason Ward might be one of the preach-y followers of Microsoft. The truth as I realised after going through the article, he was indeed true about stating Microsoft as the leader in the business.

The question arises - "HOW?" The answer is simple, Microsoft's technology is virtually everywhere.

satya nadella

"… one big mistake we made… was to think of the PC as the hub for everything for all time... And today… the high volume device is the six-inch phone… But to think that that's what the future is for all time…would be to make the same mistake we made in the past… that would be madness."
— Satya Nadella
Satya Nadella's words are indeed true in the sense that technology never stops growing, changing, modifying. So to point to something as the ultimate thing in this field is a lot  ignorant than a foolish idea. We see things developing every other minute and every other day. That gadget you purchased day before yesterday isn't the talk of the day anymore. The app you were bragging about with your friends that sets a reminder when you say has just been outdated by an app that reminds you to switch off the lights in your living room while you are in car and about to leave to your office.

User data, that's the keyphrase to be considered. You bought a laptop, then a smartphone, now a smart watch, after this a Virtual Reality device probably the Holo Lens. That's how the devices and technologies that bring them alive change but the silent and perpetual member all along has been your data.

Data is not just the name, address, and a detailed description of yourself that you gave in your resume. It is a large concept that engulfs things like your location with a mind-blowing accuracy, the places you have been to, the songs you listen to when you are distressed, the person you make the first call to when you would like to share your life's most important events, the way you use your phones and even the things you avoid in your day-to-day schedule. These are the things that does not ever change. The ultimatum here is the use of this data, YOUR data to help you to be more productive.

How any of the above statements are related to Microsoft being the leader of mobile industry? They indeed are the statements reinforcing it. Believe it or not whatever platform your mobile device works on, it has apps from Microsoft. It is a fact that Microsoft does not need make a huge sale of mobile devices but it just includes itself and its products in the ones that are sold.

A few decades ago Bill Gates started a phenomenon and money pouring concept. He wasn't making any computing devices but he gave MS-DOS to a giant, IBM, in the field. And in-turn getting royalties for each of IBM's device sold with the OS. It seems like Microsoft has not abandoned the idea yet.

Even though you may be an android or iphone user, the products developed by Microsoft keeps coming along in your life like a hutch dog. You can't possibly think of your projects without planning a neat powerpoint presentation, word is the first thing that comes to mind when you need to draft a letter. These are just the examples of how Microsoft has been easing our lives even when we are not using their landmark Windows OS.
Microsoft + android
Microsoft holds a 2.7% of mobile devices market whereas google's android occupies 80% of it. Seeing the obvious difference here it is so ironic that the company turns a profit of over $2 billion from android each year. Microsoft office, specifically word, powerpoint and excel are available as a freemium service for any and all ipad users, a larger dive into the IOS lovers' world.

With these facts and figures I am inclined to believe that the contradictory statement of Jason Ward is in fact true. Do you accept this fact? Leave your idea about this in the comments sections and ask your friends too by sharing this article with them.
